Piano Thank You cake

                                                       Thank You Piano Cake

Simple sponge cake with jam and buttercream, black fondant and of course, shaped like a piano.

I made this cake for my piano teacher as a thank you for the merit I achieved in grade 5. It wasn't easy, I don't care or practice enough, and it took a lot of hard work. So I thought I'd make a cake that replicated this process:

Tip I learnt making this: for extra lightness/fluffiness-whisk the egg whites separately with a third of the sugar and add this to the rest of the mixture with milk and flour!

Chocolate 50th Birthday Cake

                                                        Chocolate 50th Birthday Cake

I made this for my friend Tayla's Mum who also cannot decide between chocolate and fondant, a combination I still don't personally agree with but I aim to please the customer! This was not only the first time I used luxury sugar paste or cake truffle numbers, but also a first attempt at chocolate curls! The sad truth is; this was made before I discovered nutella buttercream.

My Friend's Orange-Themed Birthday Brownie

                                                         Orange Themed Chocolate Birthday Brownie

Incredibly orange chocolate oreo birthday brownie with chocolate nutella buttercream, piped orange buttercream, candy carrots, orange smarties and jellybeans, and candy orange segments. Oh and white chocolate writer icing!

Some people like cake, some people like orange chocolate oreo brownies. I'm not one to judge but I wish my friend a very happy 16th birthday! :)

Cupcake in a cup!

                                                              Cupcake-literally

I would be a disgrace to the name cake guru if I didn't go for a bit of tradition every once in a while-so for a vintage cupcake competition (Yes, I lost this as well) I thought I'd try a genuine cupcake in a teacup. It was surprisingly easy; buy a teacup-mix some cupcake batter-bake the batter in the teacup! Previously I expected cracking, chipping, and even considered exploding, but it worked a treat! (Yet again I'm displaying my incredible talent for puns.)

You can buy cupcake teacup baking cases:

But honestly I don't see the necessity. I bought a simple china teacup from a charity shop meaning that not only was my cupcake a contribution to good cause, cheap, and easy to find-but it also baked beautifully and had a much more kitsch/vintage and authentic classic teacupcake look. Why pay more for a lesser moral cause and plainer, less decorative case?

My Friend wanted to eat herself in cake pop form

My Friend's cake pop of herself!

I can't remember why but as usual I was bribing my friends with baked goods. This time round the order was a chocolate cake pop version of my friend Erin-who doesn't want to eat themselves in cake pop form?!

You can't deny, it's the spitting image:

(Her hair was wash-out red dye but it was a while before I made the cakepop and she took the picture....)

Simple Pic-Nic Cherry on Top Cake

Simple Pic-Nic Cherry on Top Cake

For those of you missing summer; here's the cake I produced when my very vaguely informative brother asked for a classic summer pic-nic cake.

Simple victoria sponge with white buttercream, swirled and piped and a cherry on top. It's just a patch-work cloth and finger sandwiches away from the perfect summer pic-nic.
